The Brava 45 Sports was recognised by the Judges at the 2008 Australian Marine Industry awards presented at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show. The Brava 45 Sports won the Judges Innovation Award in recognition of scoring "outstandingly against one or more of the applicable criteria."
The Judges described the power catamaran as "a very cleverly designed boat that incorporates a lot of innovative thought in the hull design, construction and layout. In particular the Judges were impressed by the use of composites and overall attention to detail."
The Brava 45 received a commendation in its class, coming second to the Riviera 4400 that took out the overall Boat of the Year.
The hull design incorporates Peter Brady's Controlled Vapour Dampening (Patent Pending) technology which uses a series of chines and v-pods to break up the bow wave in the tunnel. This has the dual effect of preventing slamming against the bridge deck - a common problem in catamarans - and harnessing the vapour to provide a cushioned ride in rougher seas - a natural suspension mechanism. Combined with high-speed bulbous bows and extended pontoon aft the result is a much smoother ride similar to a considerably longer hull.
Powered by 240HP or 315HP Yanmar engines, the long, thin hulls are also extremely fuel-efficient, using only 45L per hour (both engines combined) at its cruising speed of 18 knots. Fuel economy is even greater at passage-making speeds of 10-12 knots, around 24L per hour. With the large tanks, this gives a range of Brisbane - Lizard Island or Noumea.
The boat can be set up for day trips, (rated to accommodate up to 26 people), for fishing expeditions to the Great Barrier Reef or for long-range cruising around the Pacific.
Built by Brava Marine in Brisbane, the design is widely recognised from Sydney to Mackay and around to Perth.
